Objectives of job coaching for persons with partial work ability

The purpose of the coaching is to support the client with individual coaching, the primary objective of which is to enable the client to find employment from the open labour market (by shaping the work tasks if necessary) or to enter a pay-subsidised employment relationship or to make the client’s existing employment relationship permanent.

Secondarily, the aim is to find and establish other solutions that promote employment, such as training (for example, independent studies with or without an unemployment benefit, labour market training, apprenticeship) or a work try-out. The coaching can also support clients’ access to training and their ability to cope with training.

During an employment relationship or a work try-out supported by pay subsidy, job coaching can be used to facilitate the process of entering the labour market and staying there. The aid may consist of occasional backup support related to the need, but it may also be given later during the employment relationship if, for example, the customer has become uncertain or started doubting their ability to cope. The services may also include the availability of a job coach / possibilities for support after the actual job coaching.

Depending on the customer’s service needs, the coaching may also include the following content that supports the process of finding employment or education:

  • Developing the necessary IT skills required in the process of finding employment or education, guidance with modern remote tools (Teams, Zoom, LinkedIn and smartphone applications).
  • Work coaching taking place at work trials/workplaces.
  • Measures to maintain mental health.
  • Coaching provided for the work try-out place/workplace/work community based on the customer’s needs.
  • Informing the customer and, if necessary, the employer of the forms of support related to recruitment, such as pay subsidy, possible municipal supplements, work trials, subsidy for arranging working conditions and/or certificates given to the jobseeker for a large employer.
  • Support training/customisation of work for the purposes of maintaining an employment relationship.
  • Establishing a job or study place by means of various guidance and counselling measures that support the customer’s and/or employer’s familiarisation or adaptation to the work community, which can take place face-to-face at the workplace or, for example, by telephone or e-mail.
  • Providing advice and support to employers in the process of applying for pay subsidy and informing them about matters related to the application and payment of pay subsidy.
  • Models for self-employment, light entrepreneurship
  • Other services and means supporting the customer’s employment or access to education.
  • Coaching implemented as small group training (4-8 people).
  • Skills passports needed to secure access to employment or for making employment permanent.
  • Skills passports/skills cards obtained for the customer through the workplace or work try-out place, if appropriate.
  • If necessary, advice and guidance for examining the state of health or seeking vocational rehabilitation.
