null Impact of studies on unemployment allowance of laid-off persons

Since 16 March 2020, a temporary legislative amendment has been in force, which has allowed laid-off persons to study full-time without it affecting their unemployment benefit. The Act expires on 31 December 2021.

If you have ongoing studies and are partially or fully laid off, the TE Office must examine your right to the benefit as of 1 January 2022. In this case, please submit a contact request in the E-Service portal so that we can examine whether your studies are full-time or part-time in order  to determine whether you can receive unemployment benefit. Your right to the benefit is not examined if you have ongoing studies that you have already agreed with the TE-office and TE Office has given a labour policy statement to the one who pays the benefit.

As a full-time student, you are usually not entitled to unemployment benefit, but your primary support is the student financial aid granted by Kela. Read more about full-time studies:
